At 3:04am fire box 831 was alerted for a structure fire at 1265 Biggs Highway. CFCRS along with units from Charlestown, North East, Port Deposit and Oxford, PA were initially alerted. Chief 8 arrived with showing from the 1st and 2nd floors on the back of the house and requested a working fire dispatch. E812 arrived a few minutes after Chief 8 and made a 500' lay of supply line from Biggs Highway to the scene. At this point, the fire had extended into the attic of the home and now was blowing out of the front of the house. Truck 8 arrived and set up for ladder pipe operations. Chief advised all units to take up defensive operations and requested the 2nd alarm. This brought units from Elkton, Fulton Township, PA, Havre de Grace, Perryville and Darlington to the scene, E813 was directed to a tanker fill site on Calvert Road utilizing an established dry hydrant. Crews had difficulty battling this fire due to older construction. They were met with aluminum siding, asphalt shingles, heavy timber, stone and mortar walls as well as plaster and lathe interior walls. Crews finally got the fire under control and continued to work all morning with extensive overhaul. The final units cleared the scene at approximately 7am. An engine from Level covered the district during this time and then assisted with breaking down the Calvert Road draft site.Special thanks to Delmarva Power Company and The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal for their assistance.
